In 1784, the last prince provost of Berchtesgaden, Joseph Conrad von Schroffenberg, had Wimbachschloß built. In 1810, it fell under Wittelsbach rule and was eventually further used as a hunting lodge by King Max II and then by Prince Regent Luitpold. Since 2019, the castle has new tenants: Petra Palt and Alexander Unger offer a nice place to stop with an exciting menu in the middle of the Wimbach Valley between Watzmann and Hochkalter. The walking time from the parking lot Wimbachbrücke to the castle is about 90 minutes.
The hike to the Wimbach Castle is also well suited for families with strollers. The Wimbach Castle is a popular destination for day trips to the Berchtesgaden National Park. Overnight stays are not offered.
Also visit the Wimbachklamm gorge at the entrance to the Wimbach valley!
