Founded in 1978, Berchtesgaden National Park is located in southern Upper Bavaria on the border with Austria. Germany's only alpine national park is managed by the Berchtesgaden National Park Authority, a special agency of the Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection. Berchtesgaden National Park covers about 210 square kilometers and is the second oldest national park in Germany.
