In this section we have collected the most frequently asked questions of our visitors, sorted them by topic blocks and answered them. Our FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) list many basic tips for the areas of behavior in the national park, outdoor activities, vacation, visitor facilities, family friendliness and accessibility. There is also general information about the Berchtesgaden National Park. Have fun clicking through!
The National Park Center "Haus der Berge" with its award-winning exhibition "Vertical Wilderness" is located in Berchtesgaden, 5-10 minutes walk from the town center. The address is: Hanielstraße 7. The Haus der Berge has its own bus stop and can be reached with the RVO lines 839 and 841. There is also a paid parking lot directly at the center.
Golden eagle, marmot and chamois. But also among the insects, amphibians and reptiles there are many special features to discover. Why not join one of our free guided hikes, information is available at here.
The Berchtesgaden National Park is home to countless animal and plant species. Popular representatives in the plant kingdom are, for example, various gentian species, alpine rose or silver thistle. Edelweiss can only be found in a few places in the Berchtesgaden National Park. Plants may only be admired with the eyes in the protected area - and of course you may take photos. But please note: Our alpine plants do not want to travel, they find it most beautiful at home! So: picking and tearing out is strictly forbidden!
A topographical map with the boundaries of the Berchtesgaden National Park can be found at here.
Not at all! Since June 30, 2021, the area around the Gumpen has been a vegetation protection area - it is forbidden to enter here. Unfortunately, the Gumpen at the waterfall were made known worldwide within a very short time through social media. The result: more and more people, trampled vegetation, garbage, campfires, drones. All warning and enlightenment did not help: even more people came to take THAT one photo. Nature has gone completely under the wheels here. To give it a chance to recover, the BGL district office has set up a vegetation protection area. This is clearly signposted in the area. Anyone who goes in anyway will be reported and a fine will be levied. Unfortunately. Please adhere to the ban on entering to protect the sensitive mountain nature. Thank you.

Cycling in the national park is only permitted on the paths approved for this purpose. These are marked in the terrain. Maps and further information are available here.
Unfortunately, this is not possible. Tickets for the exhibition "Vertical Wilderness" at Haus der Berge are only available at the box office.
The Klausbach Valley in the Berchtesgaden National Park is also called the "Valley of the Eagles". Here is the greatest chance to observe the mighty "kings of the air" in the wild. About 20 minutes walk from the information point "Klausbachhaus" at the entrance to the valley there is a golden eagle observation point with many information boards and tips.
Golden eagles are wild animals, to observe them you need patience, a trained eye and also a little luck. Golden eagles prefer to fly on days with good thermals, that is, when the sun is shining. In rainy weather and low clouds the golden eagles take a break and move rather little. In the Klausbach and Wimbach valleys, the birds can be easily observed from the valley floor on good days. They use the rising thermals on sunlit rock faces to circle.
