General safety and liability information

Target group

This event program is aimed at families, individual visitors who enjoy nature and want to learn more about it.

For groups of ten or more participants, a separate "Educational Program for Groups" is offered on the Berchtesgaden National Park website. This includes programs at the education center, interactive programs in the field, specialized excursions and guided tours of the exhibition.

Meeting place

All meeting points can be reached by car as well as by public transport. However, especially on busy days, the parking spaces are often occupied. To reduce traffic in the communities, you can use almost all lines in the association area free of charge with the guest card! With a few exceptions, all of our National Park events are also coordinated as well as possible with public transport in terms of time and location. At each event you will find information about the appropriate line numbers and bus stops. Current timetables are available at www.rvo-bus.de.

Leave your car for the sake of the environment!

Equipment

Sturdy mountain boots with treaded soles, weatherproof and weather-adapted clothing, average physical condition, cross-country ability, sufficient snacks and drinks for longer hikes without stops. Please also note the requirements for the individual program descriptions.

Registration

For all offers a written registration at www.nationalpark-berchtesgaden.bayern.de is required!

For orientation in the program, the events of the National Park Administration are highlighted in blue (12-19), the events in the "Haus der Berge" in light green (20-23), the events of the Biosphärenregion Berchtesgadener Land in dark green (24-29) and the events of the Zweckverband Bergerlebnis Berchtesgaden in orange (38-42). In the middle of the brochure you will find the dates of all events on the pages highlighted in red-violet (30-37).

People with reduced mobility

In the Berchtesgaden National Park, only some offers can be designed barrier-free or low barrier. These are marked with a wheelchair symbol.

All guided tours and educational offers in the "Haus der Berge" are barrier-free. Disabled parking spaces as well as WCs and guidance systems are available there.

Event program winter 2023-2024!

In December 2023, the new program of events for the winter 2023-2024 will be published.

Important information about independent hikes in the National Park

Safety note

Especially in the high mountains, there are always dangers posed by nature. In particular, the toppling of dead trees and the falling of branches must be expected at all times. Do not linger in deadwood hazard areas and pass through deadwood accumulations as quickly as possible. Do not enter forests during high winds, thunderstorms, or the threat of snowfall. Near rock faces, there is also danger from falling rocks in all weather conditions.

Limited mobile phone reception

In many areas of the national park there is no or very limited cellular reception.

Conditions of participation

  • The following safety and liability rules apply to participation in a walking program event:
  • Currently, all corona rules are suspended. If the situation should change, please inform yourself daily.
  • Participation in all events is at your own risk!
  • No liability can be assumed for accidents of any kind!
  • Parents or adults are responsible for the supervision and responsibility of the accompanying underage children.
  • Dogs must be kept on a leash. They will be tolerated at the event as long as the presence of the dog does not have a negative impact on the course of the tour. Whether the presence has a negative effect is decided by the excursion leader. It is up to them to exclude a dog from the event at any time for the above-mentioned reasons.
  • The participants are obliged to inform the respective excursion leader confidentially before the start of the event of any health restrictions that could have a negative effect on the implementation of the event. The following illnesses or restrictions are listed here as examples:
    • Circulatory problems (e.g. high blood pressure)
    • Heart disease
    • Orthopedic problems (e.g. knee problems)
    • Phobias (cf. spiders, darkness, fear of heights)
    • Allergies (bees, wasps, hay fever)
    • Asthma
    • Seizures, etc.

If we do not receive any information from you, we assume that you are in the best of health and have the necessary condition and equipment to carry out the planned tour without any problems. In case of existing illnesses or limitations, the excursion leader will decide on site about the further procedure.

  • If the program or routing cannot be changed to minimize the hazards, the worst case scenario may result in an exclusion.
  • Not all areas of the national park have cell phone reception. For this reason, in case of accidents or emergencies, the rescue chain may be delayed accordingly.
  • The individual events do not only take place on fixed paths. In order to have a closer look at animal tracks and other special features, it may be necessary to leave the trail. Similar considerations apply to programs involving games or environmental education activities. Tree branches, slippery ground, loose stones or wood left lying around, etc. are typical dangers of the great outdoors. An increase in these hazards can be expected in appropriate weather conditions.
  • In the national park, forests are allowed to develop freely and age naturally accordingly. Due to this objective, there is a high amount of deadwood in many areas of the national park. Especially the falling of dead trees and the falling of branches must be expected at any time. The excursion leader can therefore cancel the event in the event of strong winds, thunderstorms or the danger of snow breaking.
  • In the mountains there are always dangers that come from nature and cannot be avoided. By participating in the event, you confirm that you have independently informed yourself about the typical dangers in the high mountains and expose yourself to the risk of these.

We thank you for your responsible and reasonable handling of the above regulations and look forward to an accident-free event together in the only Alpine National Park in Germany.

Help to protect the sensitive mountain nature!

In a national park, the protection of nature is the primary goal. And for this to work, we need your help! Please adhere to the following rules to protect chamois, marmots and co:

  • Take garbage back home with you
  • Do not pick plants
  • Keep dogs on a lead in the national park
  • Stay on the paths - please do not walk cross-country or take shortcuts
  • Do not disturb wild animals
  • Do not camp or bivouac
  • Do not light campfires
  • Do not make noise
  • Air mattresses, rubber boats and other flotation devices are prohibited
  • Drones are not allowed to fly in the national park
  • Cyclists must show consideration for hikers

Thank you for your understanding and for taking part!
